Since ancient times, white animals have held a special place with humans, they are sacred in many cultures and mythologies and nowadays are almost always an endangered species.
Rare genetic mutations can cause an animal to be born lacking pigments which means they come out with white fur/skin and reddish looking eyes.
Chances are though you’ve never seen an albino animal in person.
I should note there is a difference between alibino and leucistic conditions and that is that albinos don’t posses any pigments at all whereas leucistic animals are mostly lacking in pigments but do so still in places like their eyes.
These animals are almost impossible to find in the wild as their colour makes them vulnerable to predators.
Check out our list of the 10 most incredible albino animals:
1- Albino manta ray – There has been one documented spotting of the albino manta ray off the coast of Costa Rica, this was by Rolbin Garcia Mendez. Not much is known about the albino manta ray. Read more about it here
2- Albino Alligator – These alligators are entirely albino, and this is only one of 12 known white alligators in the world.
3- Albino Humpback Whale (Migaloo) – Migaloo is the only known albino humpback whale and is famous in Australia. She was first discovered in 1991 and can be seen during whale season.
4- Albino Peacock – Technically not albino as has some pigment in the eyes. They are not found in the wild as they are too vulnerable to predators and can unfortunately only be found in captivity. Read more about it here
5- Albino Sea Turtle – A few have been spotted from Australia to Mozambique and even fewer as adults.
6- Albino Moose – Not many documented and only one known video of it. Rumoured to have been spotted in Canada, the US and Sweden. Read more about it here

9- Albino Giraffe – Only one ever caught on video in South Africa’s Kruger park. Read more about it here
10- Albino Koala (Onya-Birri) – One albino Koala has been documented in San Diego Zoo in the US, although others have been known to exist in the wild.
